A Lifelong Pursuit of Martial Arts Perfection
My martial arts journey began when I was a teenager in 1971. Richard Nixon was President, the Vietnam War was still raging, and gasoline cost 36 cents a gallon. I was a curious young man back then. Today, my sense of curiosity and wonder is just as keen as it was in the early 70s. There is no destination or endpoint for my journey.
In 1992, Bonnie and I opened the American Martial Arts Academy in Orange County. My desire then and now remains the same – I want to give back, to help others reach their full physical, mental, and spiritual potential through training in martial arts.
During my journey, I earned a 8th Degree Black Belt of Goju Shin-Ryu. I achieved high levels of proficiency in many martial arts disciplines, including Karate, Aikido and Shotokan. In 2005, I was inducted in the Martial Arts Hall of Fame and also became a State Representative for California.
Bonnie and I have been married for 47 beautiful years. Both of my children, one boy, and one girl, achieved the rank of Black Belt. I am a retired police officer with two commendations from the City of Anaheim. I love magic, and I have worked as a magician at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.
By far, my highest sense of pride and accomplishment comes when I see the difference AMAA makes in the lives of young people, how we give them hope, purpose, and sense of self-worth. The children are indeed our future. I am so enormously proud of the men and women who are the AMAA family. Their dedication to improving the lives of our students and to making our community a better place to live knows no bounds.
